What's inside a pouch?
Pouchcraft
Open a pouch and there is not much to it. Most are built from six things:
- Nicotine: the active ingredient, either drawn from tobacco or made synthetically, then purified.
- Plant fibre: usually a food-grade filler such as eucalyptus or pine cellulose. It gives the pouch its body. No tobacco leaf.
- Flavouring: food-grade flavours such as mint, berry, citrus, and coffee.
- A pH adjuster: a small amount of a salt like sodium carbonate, which helps the nicotine release evenly.
- Sweetener: a touch, to round off the taste.
- Water and humectant: to keep the pouch moist and comfortable under the lip.
That is the whole recipe: clean, simple, and tobacco-free, though still nicotine, and still only for adults.
